Things on my mind...

There are several things on my mind and I want to get some of them out...so I'm going to put them here :-P

  1. I'm actually looking forward to writing my last Civil War paper
  2. I'm ready for Spring Break
  3. Reign Over Me is a really good movie
  4. I want to write, but I don't know what to write about
  5. I had an interesting dream last night...a little strange
  6. Tomorrow we have our first shot at severe weather for the year
  7. I can't decide if my meds are working well enough or not
1. My last Civil War paper actually looks like it will be interesting to write. The last time I was looking forward to writing a paper for a class was this time last year when I had to write one for my class on the American Presidency. That paper was supposed to be 10 pages minimum and it ended up 13 pages I think in the end. I also ended up with an 89% on it, my highest grade on a paper in college :-P This particular paper now also promises to be interesting. "In an essay of no more than 1500 words, explain and contrast the coverage of an important issue or event in any two North American newspapers from the same week during any year between 1848 and 1867. Your newspapers may be from the same place or from different places." I had initially thought to do the Dred Scott decision, but in the end I think I'm going to do the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. I'm also planning to pick one newspaper from the North and one from the South as I think that will give me a more interesting look. Of course, this paper means I'll end up spending some considerable time at the State Historical Society building over spring break (that's where the newspapers on microfilm are)

2. Even though I have nothing due this week and no tests either, I'm ready for Spring Break. I'm definitely ready for a week of no classes.

3. I went and saw Reign Over Me (the new Adam Sandler/Don Cheadle movie) last night with my parents. It's a fantastic movie, funny and heartbreaking at the same time. It also has a fantastic cast - Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle, Jada Pinkett Smith, Liv Tyler, and Donald Sutherland even has a bit part. Fair warning though...it's rated R for a reason - the language is terrible at times. If you can deal with that, you'll love the movie. Oh, and if you're thinking about not seeing it because it's an Adam Sandler movie, go see it anyway. I'm not really an Adam Sandler fan, but I loved him in this movie.

4. I want to write something...fanfiction, an original story, a song, a poem...anything. But I'm not sure what to write. I do have one fanfiction idea rattling around in my head, but I think it needs to simmer some more in my head first I think (I'm that way for a lot of things...a lot of things need to develop and simmer in my head before they can come out well in reality).

5. I had an interesting dream last night. I don't remember all of it, but I do remember some of it. That's unusual in and of itself because I usually dont remember any of the dreams themselves. Most times I just know that I dreamed but dont remember what the dreams were. I dreamed that I was up for three MTV Movie Awards. I also remember that just a few days before the awards I didn't have a date and no one to go with me, so I called my friend Allison (who lives in New Zealand) and asked her to come with me. I remember talking to her dad on the phone since she was unavailable at the time. For some reason I also remember walking around downtown Madison on campus, and then the next minute walking around a really nice hotel that couldn't possibly be located anywhere near Madison. I haven't actually "spoken" with Allison or anyone in her family since...let me think...it must have been December of 1993. Prior to last May, I hadn't even communicated with Allison since we were 11 or 12. *Shrugs* It was just strange all around.

6. Tomorrow we have our first shot at severe weather for the year. They say an isolated tornado isn't out of the question. It's a little early yet in the year for any nasty spring storms. However, it's the right temperature for our usual spring storms. Where I live, we're right on the edge between a slight chance for nasty severe weather and a moderate chance for nasty severe weather. This time of year, it's still likely we'll get some storms and rain out of the deal. For some reason though, I associate the worst storms around here with mid to late summer and then the very early part of fall. In mid to late summer we get the nasty pop up storms that can be VERY nasty, but they aren't the type to redevelop once they move through and it's very hit or miss as to whether you actually get anything out of the deal. Our worst spring storms come when you get warm temps like now and then a cold front moves through that drastically changes the temperature. However, that's not the case this time...there's a front moving through, but it's going to stay relatively warm still. Apparently it's going to stay warm all week and give us a shot at thunderstorms all week too.

7. I have an appointment with my pdoc over spring break to look at how my meds are working. I'm having mixed feeling as to how effective it really is. I definitely know it's working because I can tell when I've forgotten to put the patch on in the morning. However, I'm constantly comparing my meds to how well the adderall was working before the side effects got me. The adderall really helped me concentrate and realize when I was getting distracted. But the side effects got me and that was that. Gah!

So that's what's on my mind today. I also decided I was doing absolutely no studying today. Of course that means I'll have to study tomorrow but I'll deal.

The Devil Wears Prada

I'm watching The Devil Wears Prada and I'm not impressed. I don't care how high up someone is, that doesn't give anyone the right to tear someone else down. In my mind, viciousness is never acceptable. Aside from that, I'd work at a Burger King before I worked somewhere that didn't accept me for who I was. But *shrugs* that's me. If I have to be less than who I am, then that's not where I want to work. And I gotta say, I dont think Andrea looks any better once Nigel dresses her up. In fact, I think she looks worse. Too bad she doesn't look like a real human being anymore.

Silly movie

I just sat and watched The Break-Up. Silly movie :-P

Gah

First off, I hate carpal tunnel. It's annoying and is driving me crazy. I guess I should consider myself lucky it's not worse. However, since I do a LOT of typing for school, and cant seem to keep my hands uncurled when I sleep, it might end up worse before it gets better.

Second, Im watching Just My Luck, and I forgot just how dorky this movie is. Of course, Im really watching it for Chris Pine. He's really cute :)

Third, my counselor strongly suspects I'm ADHD. At first (probably like you are), I was like," What? No, Im not hyperactive and bouncing off the walls." Then she qualified it and said that it was the inattentive type, and when she started describing it, and asked me to see how many of the symptoms fit my life, more than enough did. It would definitely explain many of the problems I see in my life, particularly where school's concerned. To give you an idea of what it's like, at least for me....it's like knowing I have a task to complete, wanting to complete it, and believing that I know how to complete it, only to try and start it and realize I can't do it, and then not being able to remember why you can't do it. It's frustrating, to say the least. So I have a medication consult in a few weeks with a therapist with an M.D. (my counselor is a Ph.D. and thus can't prescribe medication). So we'll see...

Here I am, crying again

What is up with me and watching movies that make me cry? Im watching the end of A Walk to Remember, and of course it makes me cry every time too, not quite as much though as in Ladder 49. I don't bawl buckets for this movie.

The end of this movie makes me cry every time

Im watching the end of Ladder 49, and the damn movie makes me cry every time! Without fail, I cry at the end.

High School Musical

Alright, so I'd caught bits and pieces of High School Musical on the Disney channel over the last several weeks and really liked what I saw. So I bought the soundtrack on iTunes and loved that. So a few nights ago, I finally bought it from iTunes (cheaper than buying it on dvd, and this way my family cant make fun of me for having it :-P) and watched it today from start to finish. Gabriella and Troy are so darned cute! Man! Why can't I have a boyfriend that looks like that? *grins* Such a feel-good story. :)

My mouth hurts

I spent about 90 minutes at the dentist today, and had some serious dental work done. Now, supposedly, just taking 4 advils will take care of the discomfort, but I have my doubts. I strongly suspect that I'll be calling them before the day is out for them to call in a prescription to the pharmacy. So while I'm still quite numb, I'm also feeling some pain :( We'll see if I end up at work tomorrow.

I bought a movie and an audiobook on my way home to help keep my attention. The movie is The Parent Trap (the newer version, with Dennis Quaid and Lindsey Lohan), and the latest book by Nora Roberts on cd. It's called Morrigan's Cross and looks interesting.

Boredom, boredom, boredom...

So it's 9:23 PM on a Saturday night. I'm at home (and okay with that), but at the same time bored. There are a few different things I could be doing...getting ready for Primary tomorrow, studying for my midterm next week, read a novel....except that I dont feel like doing any of those things. I'd like to find a wonderful fan fiction to get lost in, but I haven't found one in a little while now. The last one I really got lost in for a LONG time were Abraxan's stories. I've recced them here before, so go check them out. Don't let the length scare you; they're amazing. I spent an entire weekend reading almost non-stop, and then some time through the week before I finished them. Simply amazing!

But now I'm back to being bored and dont know what to do about it. I could go to bed, except that, in being nice to my mom, I volunteered to stay up until my little brother gets home from wherever he is (two hours from now)

Tomorrow afternoon should be nice. My cousin and her husband are coming down to get the rolltop desk we're giving them (we dont use it anymore), and my mom promised to feed them before they made the two hour trek back home. I saw Candi (and no, she's not flaky like the name might imply--she graduated Valedictorian from her H.S.) when she came down for my brother's Eagle Scout ceremony in January, but Brandon had to work. If I remember correctly, they weren't at the family Christmas party either--they were at Brandon's family's house, I think. So it's been awhile since I've seen Brandon.

On Thursday night I rented Walk the Line. Haven't watched it yet, but it's not due back until Tuesday before 10PM. I may sit and watch it before Candi and Brandon arrive tomorrow. Of course, at 7PM tomorrow I'll be watching The West Wing. It's rather depressing to realize that counting tomorrow, there are only 8 Sundays of new West Wing left. As I was looking through the West Wing stuff on tvguide's website, I realized that the first time the show makes me cry will be April 2nd when Annabeth finds Leo. Though, on a better note, I am so totally looking forward to seeing Rob Lowe in the final two episodes. I really hoped he would come back for the end. I've missed him. For those of you that saw the previews at the end of last week's episode will notice that we got a HUGE clue as to who wins the election. When we saw Sam, he's saying "I'm here for the President." First off, he's not saying it to Vinnick. Plus, the area around him doesn't look anything like the area in the White House. It does, however, look like the current Santos for President headquarters in Washington, D.C. :-P Of course, a friend of mine who gets spoilers regularly for the show already told me that yes, Santos wins the election. For anyone that I just ruined it for, I'm sorry, but did you really think Vinnick was going to win? Especially since they can let the show end with one Democractic president replacing another Democrat?

Aright, so it's time for me to go find something to do....wish me luck!
